Position: Technical Writer/Editor
Location:
Telecommuting. Occasional travel required. Candidates residing within 2 hours of Philadelphia, PA or Norfolk, VA preferred.
Job Description:
Full or part-time professional serving as a Technical Writer/Editor to assist in the development of technical manuals, IETMs, and training materials across multiple complex hardware systems, including military equipment/systems. The ideal candidate will serve as an editor and quality assurance/control specialist working to create highly specialized and complex technical and instructional materials.

Job Responsibilities:
- Perform mechanical and substantive writing and editing of technical manuals and training materials, including rewriting and reorganizing material to ensure consistency, cohesiveness, grammatical and formatting accuracy, and readability.
- Convert Word/PDF technical manuals to XML.
- Collect technical data and organize it into work packages and parts lists.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to verify accuracy.
- Adhere to strict style guidelines, internal and external standards, and conventions.
- Conduct research as necessary and share information with the team.
- Maintain a reference library.
- Serve as a proponent in the implementation of sound internal quality assurance best practices.
Required Skills:
- Good writing ability and strong command of English spelling, grammar, and punctuation (samples may be required). Evidence of ability to express thoughts logically, clearly, and concisely.
- Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office applications and technical documentation software (Arbortext, XMetal, Doxygen, etc.)
- Basic knowledge of XML programming/tagging.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction and willingness to be part of a dynamic team.
- Superior time management skills and ability to multi-task to meet assigned deadlines while working in a virtual environment.
- Experience in the military, pharmaceutical, space, or any other highly regulated industry is preferred.
- Familiarity with aligning work products to required government compliance references/documentation such as MIL-STDS.
- Good communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subjected to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements. Active or past clearance preferred.
Education Req:
B.S./B.A. degree and 3-5 years of technical writing/training development experience or 5-7 years of military experience. MA/MS in a relevant discipline is preferred.
